How Bolivia's blue dollar has moved

The parallel dollar stopped being a curiosity and became the daily thermometer of Bolivia's economy. Since access to official dollars became limited, the price people actually pay each other, most visible in the USDT/BOB market, shows what dollar protection really costs.

This page gathers the full history DólarBlueBo accumulates for the parallel market: the daily series, monthly summaries and records. Data comes from Binance P2P and public sources consolidating the same market, refreshed automatically through the day.

Timeline

  • Aug 12

Official rate falls to Bs 11.71 with the parallel trading below it

The official rate peaked at Bs 12.15 on July 31 and has fallen every session since. The blue traded up to 5% below the official rate at times, unseen in years: the official rate averages yesterday's bank operations and lags when the market falls. BCB

  • Aug 11

July inflation: CPI falls 2.79%, the first negative month of 2026

The statistics institute reported a 2.79% drop in July as supply normalized after the blockades. Year-to-date inflation stands at 1.89% and the 12-month rate fell from 9.23% to 4.93%. Calmer prices ease demand for dollars as a hedge. INE

  • Jul 30

BCB clears itself to buy and sell dollars (Resolution 117/2026)

The board approved rules letting it operate two ways: direct operations with financial institutions and electronic auctions. The stated aim is to curb unwanted swings and rebuild reserves, without committing to defend any particular level. El País

  • Jul 29

Bolivia and the IMF reach a staff-level agreement for $1.9 billion

A 36-month Extended Fund Facility worth 570% of quota, Bolivia's first program in over twenty years. IMF board approval, prior actions and legislative sign-off are still pending. The Fund expects it to catalyze at least $5 billion more. FMI

  • Jul 21

Government speeds up IMF talks: a deal is "indispensable"

Chief of staff José Luis Lupo called an IMF deal indispensable to close the deficit and President Paz said it is on track. A program of up to $3.3 billion is under negotiation; fresh dollars would ease pressure on the exchange rate. Infobae

  • Jul 13

Fuel prices frozen for six months (Decree 5652)

The government fixed gasoline at Bs 6.96 and diesel at Bs 9.80 until January 2027, with up to Bs 1 billion for YPFB to cover the gap. The subsidy shields the pump but adds fiscal spending and dollar demand for imports. Infobae

  • Jul 7

    June inflation: 2.15% monthly and 9.23% year-on-year

The statistics institute blamed the monthly jump on shortages left by the blockades. First-half inflation reached 4.82%; rising prices keep up demand for dollars as a hedge. ABI

  • Jun 29

Flexible exchange rate begins: official rate starts at Bs 9.73

The 6.96 fixed dollar in place since 2011 is over: the official price is now set daily by market operations. Since the debut, the official and parallel rates have risen together. Infobae

  • Jun 23

Blockades lifted after 53 days of conflict

After the deal with the COB labor federation and a state of emergency, the country woke up blockade-free. Losses top Bs 14 billion; normalized supply eases one source of pressure on prices and the dollar. El Deber

  • Jun 9

Financial relief after more than a month of road blockades

President Paz issued a decree to fund credit lines and reschedule debt for sectors hit by the blockades. The prolonged conflict keeps pressure on the parallel dollar. Infobae

  • May 27

Government confirms advanced negotiations with the IMF

A deal would unlock external financing amid the dollar shortage. Fresh dollars would tend to ease pressure on the parallel rate. Periódico Lea

  • May 7

Six months of the new government: fiscal adjustment and a new FX policy

Gradual fuel-subsidy withdrawal, spending cuts, progressive return of dollar savings and a daily referential rate to curb speculation. Swissinfo

  • Dec 1

The BCB starts publishing a daily referential dollar value (Decree 5620)

Since December 1 the Central Bank computes a referential value from banks' real operations. It was the direct precursor of the flexible exchange rate in force since June 29. Banco Central de Bolivia

Upcoming events

  • Sep 8

    August inflation data (INE)

Approximate date. July was a technical rebound after the blockades and will not repeat. If August returns to positive but moderate territory, the slowdown is real; a sharp rebound would mean July was just a hangover.

  • Sep 30

IMF Executive Board approval of the program

No confirmed date. This is the step that releases the first disbursement, and it depends on Bolivia completing the agreed prior actions. Until then, not a dollar of the program arrives.
